Haiti, once known as “La Perle des Antilles” (The Pearl of the Antilles), has gradually lost much of its charm and richness. Since the devastating earthquake of January 10, 2010, the country has endured ongoing political instability and rising insecurity. These challenges have depleted natural resources and shaken the foundations of daily life.
Today, essentials such as food and education—basic needs for any society—have become luxuries for many Haitian families.
Roots of Relief, a small minority-owned nonprofit organization based in Newark, NJ, has long focused on supporting the homeless and strengthening educational opportunities locally. Today, we are expanding our mission beyond borders—committing to help rebuild education in Haiti, one child at a time.
